It was drizzling as I made my way from Wollongong to the picturesque Kangaroo Valley to photograph Mitchell and Ashlee’s wedding. It remained overcast for the day (which secretly wedding photographers love!) but the rain had stopped. As I drove into Minimbah Farm Cottages I was met with rolling hills and a creek with water gently trickling over the rocks. Ashlee and Mitchell got ready in “The Cottage” and “The Loft” which are both gorgeous cottages. There was even a resident blue tongue lizard (and I might add he was rather round!).
It has become a custom in recent years for the bride and groom to exchange written words before the ceremony. Ashlee had thought well in advance and wrote a letter to Mitchell every day from the day she said yes until their wedding day. She had the letters bound into a beautiful book and named it “five hundred and forty six days of engagement”. Needless to say Mitch was blown away.
Ashlee arrived at the Wildwood at Kangaroo Valley for her wedding in her grandfather’s Ford Mustang. Wildwood at Kangaroo Valley is a tranquil property surrounded by Australian bush and boasts amazing views looking over lower Kangaroo Valley, with the ceremony taking place in one of the most amazing platforms. While photographing the details of the day it occurred to me how much love there is for Ashlee and Mitchell. Nearly the entire wedding was DIY with family and friends lending a helping hand. From home grown flower pots that lined the isle to handmade bridesmaid’s gowns. Everybody important to Ashlee and Mitchell had helped play a special part in their day and I knew it was my job to document that.
Ashlee and Mitchells’ wedding was relaxed and intimate, which is exactly like Ashlee and Mitchell. There were lawn games, good tunes, picnics, a grazing table, tea making and Jenga! The whole wedding came together beautifully. The entire day was exactly what I imagined for this hiking and adventurous couple, outdoors in nature surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
Thank you Mitchell and Ashlee for allowing me to document your amazing day for you.
